Kasauli planned by a friend, not a call centre

Kasauli is what Shimla might have stayed if the crowds had never arrived — a small cantonment town with colonial bungalows, quiet pine-lined lanes, and a deliberately unhurried pace. It sits closer to Chandigarh than most Himachal hill stations, making it a realistic weekend option even for travellers with limited time.

Monkey Point, at the town's highest reachable spot, gives sweeping views across the plains and houses a small Hanuman temple. The Gilbert Trail, a gentle forested walking path, is one of the more pleasant short walks in Himachal. The town's Christ Church and old British-era brewery add colonial-era texture.

Kasauli suits couples and travellers who want genuine quiet rather than a checklist. It rarely appears as a standalone multi-night package, more often working as a calm final stop before heading back to the plains. Best visited March to June and September to November — a single overnight is genuinely enough.
