Discover Himachal
Himachal Pradesh isn't one destination — it's a state that changes character every few hours of driving. From colonial-era Shimla and the apple orchards of Kullu to the backpacker trail of Kasol and the high-altitude cold desert of Spiti, a single "Himachal trip" can mean five completely different holidays depending on how you plan it. That's exactly why picking the right combination of nights, hill stations and pace matters more here than almost anywhere else in India.
Most travellers make the mistake of treating Himachal like a checklist — cramming Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala and Dalhousie into one rushed week and spending half of it inside the cab. A well-built Himachal tour package does the opposite: it groups nearby destinations together, builds in enough daylight hours for the drive between hill towns, and leaves room for the evenings people actually remember — a bonfire in Manali, a quiet walk along the Beas in Kasol, or the sunset from Kufri.
That's where a local Himachal operator earns its place. Roads here close for landslides and reopen the same afternoon, hotel quality swings wildly between two properties with near-identical photos online, and the "best" route genuinely depends on the season you're travelling in. Every package on this page is priced and routed by a team that drives these roads every week — not assembled from a spreadsheet in another city.
Whether you're planning a short 2-night getaway to Shimla, a 5-night family circuit through Manali and Kasol, or a longer 7-night trip that pushes into Spiti Valley, the packages below are a starting point, not a fixed script. Tell us your dates and group size on WhatsApp and we'll adjust any of these plans — nights, hotel category or route — until the itinerary actually fits how you want to travel.

Where to go
Hill stations, valleys and pilgrimage towns — a short guide to what each one actually offers, so you can pick the right combination for your trip.

Once the summer capital of the British Raj, Shimla is where most Himachal trips still begin — and for good reason. The town spreads across seven hills, with Mall Road and The Ridge forming a walkable, café-lined spine that stays lively well into the evening. Christ Church anchors one end of The Ridge with its neo-Gothic façade, while a short uphill walk gets you to Jakhoo Temple and its giant Hanuman statue, with monkeys darting between the pines and views stretching across the Shivalik range on a clear day. The Kalka-Shimla toy train, a UNESCO World Heritage line, is worth riding at least one-way for the 100-plus tunnels and pine-forest switchbacks alone.
Beyond the town centre, Shimla makes a natural base for half-day trips. Kufri, barely 45 minutes away, adds snow activities in winter and a small nature park with Himalayan wildlife year-round. The surrounding hills also hide apple orchards that turn the countryside pink with blossoms every spring and heavy with fruit by late summer.
Shimla suits almost every kind of traveller because it never demands much effort: hotels range from colonial-era heritage properties to simple budget stays, and the walking distances between attractions are short enough for grandparents and toddlers alike. The best window is March to June and September to November. Two full days are enough to see it properly; add a third for the Kufri day trip. Most Banjari itineraries pair Shimla with Manali as the opening leg of a longer Himachal package.

If Shimla is Himachal's polished front door, Manali is its adventure playground. Set at the head of the Kullu Valley with the Pir Panjal range rising almost directly behind it, the town splits into two moods — the organised main market and temple area, and Old Manali across the river, where narrow lanes, live-music cafés and Israeli-influenced menus draw a younger, slower crowd. Hadimba Temple, tucked inside a cedar forest, is worth visiting just for the walk in.
Most visitors come for what lies beyond the town. Solang Valley delivers paragliding, zorbing and a cable car in summer, and turns into a full snow-sports ground through winter. Push further and Rohtang Pass, when open, puts you at over 13,000 feet among genuine high-altitude snow, though the pass closes for several months each year. Closer to town, the Vashisht hot springs offer a relaxing end to a long sightseeing day.
Manali also works as the jumping-off point for a Kasol day trip or a multi-day push into Spiti Valley, which is why it appears in almost every Himachal itinerary of four nights or longer. May to June and September to early November are the most reliable months. Plan on at least two full days in and around Manali, and book early for Christmas week and Diwali — this is the state's most-visited town.

Kasol earned its reputation as a backpacker village, and the label still fits even as day-trippers and family groups have joined the crowd. The town sits on the banks of the Parvati River, hemmed in by pine forest, with a main lane of cafés serving Israeli and Continental food alongside the usual Himachali dhabas. It's less a checklist of monuments and more a place to slow down — riverside benches and long conversations over chai are the actual attraction.
For travellers who want to move, Kasol is also a trekking base. The Kheerganga trail starts a short drive away and is doable as a long day hike or an overnight with a hot spring at the top. Tosh, a quieter village further up the valley, makes an easy half-day trip. Manikaran, roughly 4 kilometres away, adds a working pilgrimage site built around natural hot springs.
Most Himachal packages treat Kasol as a 1-2 night detour from Manali rather than a standalone destination — arrive without a fixed plan and let the valley set the pace. The Parvati Valley is at its best from March to June and September to November; monsoon brings landslide risk on the approach road. A single overnight is enough to get the feel of the place.

Dharamshala sits lower in the Kangra Valley than most Himachal hill stations, wrapped in tea gardens and pine forest with the Dhauladhar range rising sharply behind it. The town itself is more administrative than scenic, but it's the gateway to McLeod Ganj just above it, and together the two form one of the more culturally distinct stops on a Himachal circuit.
The HPCA Cricket Stadium, framed by snow peaks, is a genuine oddity worth a photo stop. Below town, the Kangra tea estates offer an easy, unhurried walk through terraced gardens that feels entirely different from the pine-and-snow scenery elsewhere in the state. Bhagsu Falls, a short trek from McLeod Ganj, rewards an early start with fewer crowds.
Dharamshala rewards travellers who want a day or two of genuinely slow travel between busier stops like Manali and Dalhousie. March to June and September to November bring the clearest views of the Dhauladhar range. Two nights covers both Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj comfortably; add a third for the full Triund trek.

Perched above Dharamshala, McLeod Ganj is where the Dalai Lama has lived since 1960, and that history shapes almost everything about the town. Tibetan flags line the narrow streets, monasteries sit beside small guesthouses, and the Tsuglagkhang Complex — the Dalai Lama's temple — draws visitors regardless of faith for its quiet courtyards and Tibetan Museum.
Beyond the religious sites, McLeod Ganj has become a genuine café town, with a concentration of bakeries and rooftop restaurants that rivals anywhere else in Himachal. It's also the trailhead for Triund, a demanding but manageable day hike that ends at a ridge with an uninterrupted view of the Dhauladhar snowline — one of the best reward-to-effort treks in North India.
The town suits travellers interested in Tibetan Buddhist culture and casual trekkers looking for an achievable summit without technical gear. Visit between March and June or September to November for the clearest Triund views. One full day covers the monastery complex and town; add a second for the Triund trek.

Dalhousie carries its colonial-era character more visibly than almost any other Himachal hill station — the town was built by the British as a summer retreat, and stone churches, red-tin-roofed cottages and pine-lined roads still define its five hills. It's quieter and less commercial than Shimla or Manali.
The town rewards unhurried walking: St. John's and St. Francis churches, Subhash Baoli, and Panchpula for a short walk to a small waterfall are all close to most hotels. The real highlight sits about an hour away: Khajjiar, a wide meadow ringed by dense forest with a small lake at its centre.
Dalhousie works best as a slower counterpoint on a longer Himachal itinerary, popular with families and older travellers for its gentle pace. March to June and September to November are most pleasant. Two nights is a comfortable minimum — one for Dalhousie town, one for the Khajjiar day trip.

Spiti is the outlier on this list — a high-altitude cold desert on the Tibetan plateau side of Himachal, closer in landscape to Ladakh than to the green hill stations most people associate with the state. Bare mountains, thin air above 12,000 feet, and centuries-old Buddhist monasteries define the region.
Key Monastery sits dramatically stacked against a hillside as an active teaching centre for young monks. Tabo Monastery, sometimes called the "Ajanta of the Himalayas," offers a quieter alternative. Villages like Langza, Komic and Hikkim — home to the world's highest post office — are worth the detour for anyone curious how life is lived at this altitude.
Spiti is not a relaxed add-on — the drive in is long and altitude sickness needs real acclimatisation. It's only reliably accessible from June to early October. A proper trip needs at least 5-6 days including drive time, best combined with Manali as the start or end point.

Kufri sits just 15 kilometres from Shimla, high enough to catch snow well before the capital does, which makes it Himachal's most accessible taste of proper mountain snow. Most visitors treat it as a half-day or full-day trip rather than an overnight stop.
In winter, Kufri turns into a genuine snow-sports hub — tobogganing, skiing lessons and pony rides through snow-covered pine trails, all set up for day-trippers. The rest of the year, the Himalayan Nature Park houses native wildlife including snow leopards, and the ridge offers wide valley views without central Shimla's crowds.
Families with young children particularly favour Kufri since the activities are gentle and well-supervised. December through February is peak snow season. A half-day is enough for most travellers. Almost every Banjari Shimla-based package includes Kufri as a built-in excursion.

Khajjiar's nickname — "Mini Switzerland" — gets repeated so often it's easy to dismiss as marketing, but it isn't entirely unearned. A flat, saucer-shaped meadow sits ringed by dense deodar forest, with a small lake and a modest golf course at its centre, roughly an hour from Dalhousie.
The meadow itself is the main activity: walking its edge, renting a horse for a short ride, or simply sitting with the forest as a backdrop. Golden Devi Temple, a small wooden shrine at the meadow's edge, adds a quiet cultural note. Zorbing and paragliding operators set up seasonally near the meadow.
Khajjiar works almost exclusively as a day trip rather than a standalone stop. The meadow is at its greenest March to June and September to November. Two to three hours is enough to see and enjoy it properly — treat it as a stop on the way to or from Dalhousie.

Kasauli is what Shimla might have stayed if the crowds had never arrived — a small cantonment town with colonial bungalows, quiet pine-lined lanes, and a deliberately unhurried pace. It sits closer to Chandigarh than most Himachal hill stations, making it a realistic weekend option even for travellers with limited time.
Monkey Point, at the town's highest reachable spot, gives sweeping views across the plains and houses a small Hanuman temple. The Gilbert Trail, a gentle forested walking path, is one of the more pleasant short walks in Himachal. The town's Christ Church and old British-era brewery add colonial-era texture.
Kasauli suits couples and travellers who want genuine quiet rather than a checklist. It rarely appears as a standalone multi-night package, more often working as a calm final stop before heading back to the plains. Best visited March to June and September to November — a single overnight is genuinely enough.

Manikaran sits a short drive past Kasol in the Parvati Valley, built almost entirely around its natural hot springs and the pilgrimage sites that have grown up beside them. Both a Sikh gurdwara and a Hindu temple stand near the springs, and the boiling natural water is used to cook langar meals served free to every visitor.
Beyond the springs themselves, the town's main experience is simply being present for the ritual of it — bathing in the designated hot-spring pools, watching the langar kitchen in constant motion, and taking in the steep valley walls that hem the town in on both sides.
Manikaran works almost exclusively as a half-day add-on to a Kasol stay rather than an overnight destination — most travellers combine the two in a single day trip from Manali. The hot springs remain warm and usable year-round. Two to three hours covers it comfortably.

Solan rarely makes it onto a traveller's must-see list, and that's largely because its real role is as a well-placed stopover rather than a final destination. Sitting on the Kalka-Shimla highway, it's often where Himachal-bound travellers stretch their legs, and its nickname — the "Mushroom City" — comes from India's largest mushroom research institute located here.
The Mohan Shakti Heritage Park, a large landscaped complex with sculpture gardens and waterfalls, is the town's main built attraction and makes for a pleasant couple of hours if you're passing through. Solan's brewery heritage adds a bit of unexpected industrial history for anyone curious enough to ask locally.
Most travellers experience Solan from the highway — a meal break, a fuel stop, or an overnight if the drive from Chandigarh or Delhi has run long. An overnight stop, or even just a two-hour break at Mohan Shakti Heritage Park, is all Solan really asks for.
